It was an all southern Queensland affair when Blow a Kiss took out the Roma Cup on the weekend.
Co-owner, Anselmo Morosini, was “on cloud nine” after the race.
“I haven’t raced a lot of horses, but Blow a Kiss is certainly the best horse I’ve ever owned and he’s got a lovely personality to boot!”
“It’s wonderful to win a race anywhere, but to win a race in the part of the world you love is wonderful…The prizemoney was wonderful. A $50,000 race! It’s unbelievable,” Anselmo Morosini.
Vice President, and Race Caller, for the Roma Turf Club Peter Flynn says even though there have been “excellent” meetings over the last five years, this year’s event was “probably the best Cup field the Roma Turf Club has had.”
“It’s a massive thing for country racing. This event draws more people than the Birdsville Cup and more people than the Toowoomba Weetwood. As far as country racing goes it’s the ‘be all and end all’.”
The weather made things even more exciting, as a thunderstorm passed through the town in the afternoon sending race-goers running for cover, and the runners in Race 5 back to the sheds for a delayed start. “The rain may have played a little bit of havoc with the races” Peter Flynn says, “but it’s actually cooled it down a bit for the crowd. The crowd stayed on and enjoyed themselves!”
