A media company set to start up a newspaper in central Queensland says it has more plans for expansion.
Queensland Media Holdings (QMH) will launch the weekly Queensland Telegraph within the next three months.
“We’ve picked a date in there but it depends on the final pieces of assembling our team,” owner and chief executive Darren McVean said.
He says the newspaper will have a print run of 50,000 and cover Rockhampton, Gladstone, Emerald, Biloela and the Capricorn Coast.
“The central Queensland news print advertising market is more than $60 million annually,” he said.
APN News and Media currently produces newspapers in all five locations.
Earlier this year, QMH launched the Mackay Telegraph.
Mr McVean says he has now set his sights on Toowoomba, another APN publication area.
He plans to start operating there within four months.
